We have recently had the pleasure of being asked by Harry Gregson-Williams to work on the score for Sony’s highly anticipated rework of Total Recall. It’s an action thriller about reality and memory, inspired anew by the famous short story “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick. Directed by Len Wiseman, the film is due for general release on the 3rd of August 2012.

For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he’s got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life – real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police – controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston), the leader of the free world – Quaid teams up with a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) to find the head of the underground resistance (Bill Nighy) and stop Cohaagen. The line between fantasy and reality gets blurred and the fate of his world hangs in the balance as Quaid discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate.

Earlier this year we were invited to work on Fast Five and contributed four cues to the score. The cues needed an electronic Brazilian street vibe but fitting in a score arrangement and we were given fantastic license to weave those influences together and come up with something interesting. Very different to our normal input into a score but great to be able to inject some electronica references into the cues.

Synopsis : Dominic and his crew find themselves on the wrong side of the law once again as they try to switch lanes between a ruthless drug lord and a relentless federal agent.

We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve be working on the new Jon Favreau film Cowboys & Aliens for Harry Gregson Williams. The film stars Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford and is set in 1873 when a spaceship arrives in Arizona to take over the Earth, as they invariably do. The film is due for release on the 12th of August 2011.

We’ll be working on many parts of the score and so far have been concentrating on the dynamic action sequences, lots of mental sound design and alien battle sonics! We’ll post updates when possible but can safely say, it’s going to be massive…

The opening track from Disappear Here has been chosen for the the trailer for the forthcoming Anthony Hopkins film, The Rite. The version used is a special edit which been taken from the ‘Widescreen Edition’ of the album which is was released on the 22nd of November.

Inspired by true events, “The Rite” follows skeptical seminary student Michael Kovak (Colin O’Donoghue), who reluctantly attends exorcism school at the Vatican. While in Rome, he meets an unorthodox priest, Father Lucas (Anthony Hopkins), who introduces him to the darker side of his faith. Directed by Mikael Hafstroem (“1408″), “The Rite” is a supernatural thriller that uncovers the devil’s reach to even one of the holiest places on Earth.

We’ve just completed work on the forthcoming Denziel Washington film, Unstoppable for composer Harry Gregson Williams. We’ve been working on the score for the film remotely from our studios in the UK and sending unfeasibly large audio files overnight to LA, much to the disgust of our respective internet providers. The film is directed by Tony Scott and also stars Chris Pine from Star Trek.

A high proportion of our work on the score was sound design along with focussing on the huge pulsing rhythms needed to convey the size of these enormous trains. This entailed many days working on the sound of the train and experimenting with all kinds of metal groans and textures. Loads of fun and very challenging as ever on a Tony Scott film.

Here’s the film’s synopsis :

A massive unmanned locomotive, nicknamed “The Beast” and loaded with toxic cargo, roars through the countryside, vaporizing anything put in front of it. A veteran engineer (Washington) and a young conductor (Pine), aboard another train in the runaway’s path, devise an incredible plan to try and stop it – and prevent certain disaster in a heavily populated area.

We’ve been in the studio working with Harry Gregson Williams on the score for the forthcoming X-Men film Wolverine starring Hugh Jackman and Liev Schreiber. We’ve been working between LA and the UK and are currently holed up in our Derbyshire studio writing and sound designing for the score. Mike had this to say on the project :

“It’s great to be working on such an huge film for Harry, Chris and I are both fans of the X-Men trilogy and this is going to be a monster of a movie. Huge sounds and massive sequences, it’s been really challenging and inspiring and we’re really looking forward to seeing the completed film when it gets released on May the 1st.”

The film follows the gruff, steel clawed Marvel superhero Wolverine as he strikes out on his own in this X-Men spin off series. The film is set up as an origin tale for the character and will find him sharing the screen with X-Men characters Deadpool, Gambit, John Wraith, Victor Creed/Sabretooth and Col. William Stryker. Academy Award winning director Gavin Hood (Tsotsi) films a screenplay penned by Troy scribe David Benioff (Troy). Daniel Henney and Lost’s Dominic Monaghan round out the supporting cast.

Hybrid’s track Choke with John Graham was chosen to soundtrack the the trailer for the Frank Miller and Will Eisner movie, The Spirit. Adapted from the legendary comic strip, The Spirit is a classic action adventure-romance told by genre-twister Frank Miller (creator of 300 and Sin City). It is the story of a former rookie cop who returns mysteriously from the dead as the Spirit (played by Gabriel Macht) to fight crime from the shadows of Central City. The film also stars Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Eva Mendesand Jaime King.

When a Rookie cop named Denny Colt returns from the beyond as The Spirit, a hero whose mission is to fight against the bad forces from the shadows of Central City.
